One of the most intriguing, inventive acts to emerge over the last year, Alex Vargas looks set to storm to 2016 with his groundbreaking alternative pop, evident on his incredible new EP ‘Giving Up The Ghost’, which brings together slick, left-field production with jaw-dropping vocals and unashamedly huge melodies, culminating in a suitably huge selection of songs that resonates effortlessly on so many levels. Alex’s debut EP was released through Locomotion Entertainment/Copenhagen Records on Jan 22nd and the lead track ‘Shackled Up’ has instantly been picked by Spotify for its New Music Friday (USA), New Music Friday (UK) and New Music Friday (Scandinavia) playlists.

The track is clocking up specialist radio support across UK and mainland Europe, with plays from BBC Introducing / BBC Radio 1 and playlist / Shock Of The New from Radio X in the UK. In Scandinavia the track was ‘Single of The Week’ on Denmark’s National Radio P3 where it’s rapidly climbing the airplay. ‘Shackled Up’ was made available on Soundcloud on Jan 8th and it is so far one of the most blogged new tracks this year with Hypem drawing an overwhelming response from the likes of Pigeons and Planes, Clash, GQ, Hilly Dilly, Line of Best Fit, Disco Naïveté, Mahogany and other high-profile tastemakers.

Smashing a multitude of festivals throughout 2015, high profile support slots included the likes of Jack Garratt and James Bay and his own headline European tour in autumn, which sold out almost instantaneously. Alex was the standout performer at the Eurosonic (NL) festival, which has landed him festival slots across prestigious European festivals including Roskilde (DK), Pukkelpop (BE), Lowlands (NL), Montreux (SZ) and Glastonbury (UK).
