New Zealand band French for Rabbits (guitarist John Fitzgerald and airy-voiced singer/songwriter Brooke Singer) have been quietly crafting their ethereal dream-pop since 2011. Their music which is deeply rooted in nature, haunting yet gentle, and distinctly antipodean has seen them perform in some of the most celebrated concert halls in Europe, garner millions of streams on the likes of Spotify and Youtube, and gather an audience around the globe.
With the enchanting, misty sound evoking their maritime origin, they made their debut in 2012 with the six-song Claimed by the Sea EP. This was followed by an expansion to a full-band line. Their 2014 debut full length Spirits released on US label Lefse Records, was followed by extensive touring from Iceland to Berlin, including a support tour with acclaimed Danish pianist and songwriter Agnes Obel.
For lovers of music on the dreamier side with similarities drawn to Beach House, Daughter and Mazzy Star. The band spent 2016 producing their second album ‘The Weight of Melted Snow’. Soon due for world-wide release it has already received high praise including first single ‘One & Only’ making the Top 20 of the APRA Silver Scroll Award in New Zealand.
